Challenge
Clean Size is a Shopify app that helps merchants create clear, easy-to-understand sizing charts for their products. While its backend functionality was solid, the product lacked visual polish and brand clarity:
The UI felt disconnected from Shopify’s Polaris design system
The app store presence didn’t communicate value visually
Illustrations were generic and didn’t reflect the product’s capabilities
The team needed a visual refresh one that would immediately signal trust, professionalism, and Shopify-native integration.
Phase 1: Visual Research & Audit
Competitor Analysis: Studied competitor Shopify apps and Polaris design standards
Audit: Identified visual gaps in the current design and app store listing
Visual direction: Created moodboards and style directions for visual alignment
Phase 2: Documentation
Documentation: Documented the old product and user flows to identify gaps and find opportunities of improvement in the product.
Phase 3: Design and Execution
Design: Designed all the flows in Polaris, different use cases and error states. Ensured all visuals had a light, clean and clear visual language that resonates with Shopify merchants in recognising functionality and leveraging the features for maximum effectiveness. Designed component-based design specs for faster dev handoff.
Support guidelines: Created support and documentation guidelines.
